Each year we install a bedding display at Terrace Gardens for our customer, The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
Our teams work together with the council to come up with ideas for the display, with a particular focus on celebrating something of local or national importance.
This process starts way in advance, usually in the autumn of the year before planting. Last year a number of ideas were tabled, but one idea in particular stood out. The group agreed that 100th year anniversary of the Poppy Factory was the worthy winner – https://www.poppyfactory.org/visit/
We submitted our idea to a plant supplier who grows the designs for us in cells, which are then shipped to us. Once the deliveries are received, we are then able to put the design together in stages, a little bit like a jigsaw puzzle.
The planting is predominantly sedum based which is hardy, water-wise and relatively low maintenance. The design from the previous season is removed upon arrival and, where possible, transferred to the borders of Terrace Gardens.
Our teams were really proud to play a small part in recognising such a fantastic achievement and milestone. Everyone was very happy with the end product, as were the Poppy Factory and the council.
Here’s to the next 100 years.
